GRAVITY
The term"GRAVITY" has puzzled many people for centuries. But the first person to provide an answer to this question was Newton. When an apple fell on his head he wondered why the apple is falling down. He then worked on the subject and got the results on what we call as gravity. He said it is a force that exists between two bodies. He provided us with equation that enabled us to calculate the amount of force exerted on a body,

But he does not explain what, how and why gravity is caused. His theory also allowed us to calculate the behavior of matter to a certain limit.untill Einstein's period no one was able to give a correct reason for gravity.Untill that newton's idea on gravity was thought to be correct. Everything changed when Einstein published his theory of relativity.

EINSTEINS IDEA ON GRAVITY
Einstein with his concept of space time curvature rocked the world of physics. He said that mass distorts space thus creating space-time curvature. We think that gravity is just a force that holds us on our feet. He simply rejected the idea that gravity is just a force. But we feel gravity as a force and we cannot simply reject the idea of force and accept gravity as space time curvature. Because it is weird to imagine gravity in Einstein's way and at the other hand have been brought up by the idea that gravity is a force as in our text books. But it's time to get an update on gravity.

As per the concept of space time curvature gravity works on the two rules
  • A particle travelling in a gravitational field will take the shortest path 
  • A particle travelling in a gravitational field will travel along a straight path 
It is hard to accept the two rules but in this article I will try hard to make things simple and easier.

CASE 1:
Consider that you throw a ball. It will make its path through air and hit the ground but what's weird about that .The fact is that it has taken the shortest path. But you think that everything is normal and you would not experience any difference. This is normal in the case of a ball. But it's totally different when gravity is stronger so that not even light can escape from it.in the case of the ball it is subjected to a little gravity so nothing extraordinary happens. The below figure represents a ball thrown from point a.The ball travels and hits the point b.The path is a projectile motion. In reality the ball goes straight. No curved path but we see a curved path of the ball. This is because that space time is curved

This is because we cannot see the dimensions like space and time and our brain should should somehow process it so it gives us a curved path. (NOTE: This is because of our brains inability to process info beyond a certain limit and as per some reports our brain only process only 10% of the data it gets).that's the reason for the curved path.

CASE 2:
In this consider a beam of light travelling straight into a black hole (a black hole is a dead star but with a very high gravity. Not even light can escape from it) when the beam reaches near the black hole its bends and moves into the blackhole.This is because it takes the shortest path.(it is the first law and not well explained in case 1).so if you think gravity as a force it will be pulling the object to ground. But as per space time curvature it is not a force so it should be going forever (i.e.) a ball thrown

Will be travelling and do it will not hit the ground. But as I have mentioned earlier that gravity is space time curvature it is the amount of time of the object (i.e.) when we throw a ball after an amount of time the ball will fall down because the time for the ball to be in motion expires so that it fall down and it is not the gravitational force which pulls it down.

Former Anna University VC suspended two days before retirement

Times of India : Former Anna University vice-chancellor P Mannar Jawahar, who has been teaching at the Madras Institute of Technology after his tenure ended in 2012, was placed under suspension on Tuesday, two days before he was due to retire from service. 
Sources said the action follows an investigation started by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) into allegations of corruption during his term as VC. 
Jawahar, who found the orders waiting for him at home on Tuesday, said he was puzzled by the sudden turn of events. "I am unable to understand why this action has been taken," he told TOI. 
"Only last week my colleagues gave me a farewell party. Even the (current) vice-chancellor was there. Nobody mentioned anything to me. I have been going to work regularly, and don't know why this is happening," Jawahar told TOI. "An inquiry into grave charges against P Mannar Jawahar is contemplated. Hence, he is suspended from service," the letter of suspension from the university's registrar-in-charge S Ganesan said. 
Sources said DVAC started inquiries based on a complaint filed by the university a few days ago. "We will conduct a detailed inquiry on the complaint, and action will be initiated based on the outcome," a DVAC officer said. 
Last year, some faculty members of the university, who had been suspended, claimed that during his tenure as VC, Jawahar had asked them to award higher marks to some students in a revaluation exercise. He has, however, denied any involvement in the scandal. 
Jawahar served as vice-chancellor of one of the country's largest technical universities from June 2008 to 2012. He was given a year's extension as VC by the then governor Surjit Singh Barnala after his tenure ended in 2011. Since June 2012, when his term as VC ended, Jawahar has been working as a professor in the department of automobile engineering at MIT in Chromepet. He has been teaching BTech and ME students there.

Former Anna university vice-chancellor Prof P. Mannar Jawahar, serving as professor in the university's Centre for University Industry Collaboration (CUIC),  was suspended on Tuesday night. His suspension came at a time when he was to retire from service on Thursday.
A brief order signed by university registrar (in-charge) S. Ganesan read, "An inquiry into grave charges against P. Mannar Jawahar is contemplated. Hence he is suspended from service."
University sources alle­ged that he had been suspended as a few cases, including illegal admission of students in Anna University's College of Engineering, Guindy, and alleged purchase of computer equipments for university departments, are pending against him.
The university sources also said  Prof Jawahar during his tenure as vice-chancellor had appointed his wife Jewelcy Jawahar as international affairs advisor.
A senior university official said the state government's directorate of vigilance and anti corruption (DVAC) had registered cases against a few of the university officials for their alleged role in the irregularities.
"Based on these we decided to place Prof Mannar Jawahar under suspension until the inquiry is completed," the official said.
When contacted over the issue, Professor Mannar Jawahar confirmed that he had rec­eived the brief suspension order on Tuesday night.

"I am innocent and I had been true to myself and others. I am clueless as to why I was suspended when I have only a day to serve the university. I will prove my innocence when asked to, I have nothing more to say," he told DC.

Internal Marks : AU-COE Vs Engineering Colleges - Who has the Power? (News Updated on 30.10.2013)

Latest Update 30.10.2013 : 

Today AU-COE is instructed to all Affiliated Colleges as "Institutions are requested to check the Internal Assessment entry details. Incomplete assessment entry will not get hall ticket."

If your college not yet update any Attendance / IAT Marks details and if its not updated a particular student, then the student will not get the Hall Ticket.

So, all the students are requested to check your Attendance and IAT Marks and if any single field (Except Practical Papers) is missed to fill, then immediately contact your Class Teacher and ask them to update the details to avoid the last minute tension.  


Practical Exams are almost near to the end (For Slot 1).

Till now there is no official news from Anna University regarding the Internal marks.

Anna University recently launch a Portal for COE and asked all the colleges to fill the regular reports about Students Attendance and Internal Assessment Tests Marks in that portal.

From the above Portal, AU has all the data to prepare the Internal Marks. So all the colleges' Students are feared as about the Internal Marks will be award by Anna University instead of the College.


But Anna University never before announced as the Internal Marks will be directly awarded by AU-COE. And also its not refused about the same.
Now the Semester Exams are comes closer  and till there is no news as who has the power to award the Internal Marks.

Most of the points are favour to AU-COE to take charge for awarding the Internal Marks.  Anyhow anything can happen.

If AU-COE took the charge, then Every Single Mark and Attendance is important.



So, All the students once again check your IAT Reports and Attendance reports on http://coe1.annauniv.eduportal and contact your class in-charge / HOD for corrections if any.

Dream of becoming a CEO?


A subtle and silent change is under way in India Inc on the emphasis it seeks in its CEOs: humble and not haughty, sensitive and not insular, about solid teams and not about star individuals. This greater emphasis on soft skills, a manifestation of an economy in crisis and change, is illustrated by how a global bank, with headcount of about 1,000 in India, redefined its search for a country head to executive-search firm Kelly Services a few months ago. 

When Kelly presented candidates with plum degrees who had nurtured big brands, the bank's board showed no interest in even meeting them. It, instead, asked Kelly to shortlist candidates who possessed, along with ability and confidence, soft skills to develop talent and win customers. 
"The client wanted to know how the candidate has done as a people's person," says Kamal Karanth, managing director of the India unit of Kelly, declining to name the bank for reasons of confidentiality. Adds Jayesh Pandey, managing director, talent and organisation, Accenture: "Increasingly, organisations are looking for CEOs who are humble and have a greater people connect. It is permeating into the way companies are spending their talent dollars." 

Karanth says this change has crept in recently. "Three years ago, when a company would give a mandate for a CEO, some of the obvious traits would be peoplebig brands, with sales achievements, flamboyant, high energy, who can crack a million-dollar deal any time," he adds. 

"They would compromise if a person displayedthese skills but was bullying and arrogant." Headhunters say company founders and boards are now placing less emphasis on such attributes while drawing up a profile matrix. They instead want leaders who can tackle a slowing economy, a complex business environment and empower a growing number of Gen Y at the work place gracefully and effectively. That philosophy, they add, runs through some of the notable hirings and elevations of 2013: Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal, HCL Technologies CEO Anant Gupta, Britannia COO Varun Berry, Godrej Consumer managing director Vivek Gambhir and HindustanUnilever MD and CEO Sanjiv Mehta. 
In July 2013, when Mehta was anointed, Harish Manwani, chief operating officer of HUL parent Unilever, told ET: "He is not only a great leader, but a very humble man and a man of great compassion. So very competent and yet a great listener, and I have absolutely no doubt he will fit in HUL." 

For Navnit Singh, India CMD of search firm Korn/Ferry International, this realignment of preferences is a sign of maturity in the selection process. 

"Today, nobody is influenced by an individual aura or a well-known personality," he says. "Companies want leaders who are not rock stars, but who can work with a team of mini rock stars." Increasingly, those "mini rock stars" are becoming younger; they are also ambitious and have an egalitarian approach to workplaces. 

"Mostly in new economy companies,those in IT and ITeS that are managing more Gen Y, you need to have CEOs who are more grounded," says Karanth of Kelly Services. "Young people want to be heard and want to know that the CEO is listening," adds professor Linda Hill, Wallace Brett Donham professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, and chair of the school's Leadership Initiative. 

The focus is shiftingan individual to a team,quick growth to building an institution. "Increasingly, boards are also liking people who focus on company achievements and not personal achievements," says Anil Sachdev of School of Inspired Leadership, a private business in Gurgaon. 

"So, I don't see too many CEOs today interested in appearing on public forums. They would rather spend time with their internal team members." Sachdev is also a member of the HR committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). According to Hill, the imperative to spend time with employees is greater in the current shaky business environment, especially if hard steps are to be taken. "...( in such instances ) it's important for them to have the humility to understand that the person in front of them also has responsibilities and obligations," says Hill, who studied the behaviour of several global leaders during the 2008 downturn, including the then HCL Technologies CEO Vineet Nayar. 

Hill points out that, in the social milieu, many employees are not only supporting themselves, but also their extended families. "Every effort should be made to help laid off employees maintain their dignity; their treatment will matter not only to them, but also to the survivors in assessing the CEO'sacter," she says. "CEOs need to be sensitive to how people are feeling; they need to lead with transparency, accountability and humility." Rajeev Peshawaria has been the chief learning officer of Coca-Cola and Morgan Stanley, and has held senior positions at American Express and Goldman Sachs. 

While researching for his book 'Too Many Bosses, Too Few Leaders', he found that one reason why Howard Schultz of Starbucks, Jack Ma of Alibaba and Jeff Bezos of Amazonbuilt enduring businesses was that they understood the power of "we". "In the long run, business leaders who have the unique quality of 'humble confidence' are the ones that succeed," he says. "Collaboration is more key today than ever before, and involving Gen Y is an absolute must in order to create a better future." Kishore Biyani, promoter of Future Group, says Indian CEOs are adapting. 

"They are more receptive now to new ideas and change," he says. "They were far too stiff earlier and possibly also reflected the attitude of their own leaders." Vivek Gambhir, who tookge as MD of Godrej Consumer in June, says he spends more time visiting the company's various offices and factories; he does not just meet the management, but also reaches out to the officer-level cadre. 

Twice or thrice a week, he posts his observations on business and updates on the company's micro-blog Yammer. "From a personality perspective, flashy and high display energy is being replaced by an ability to connect on the ground," says Karanth. Rootedness in a CEO is something that Ramesh Chauhan, chairman of Bisleri International, has been searching for, though elusively. 

"Two years back, I sacked a person hired at that level for his inability to get a sense of what is happening on the ground," he says. 

"Most MBA-culture CEOs come in with pre-conceived notions and impose their thoughts on others. They just do not listen." And increasingly, neither do companiesthat.
