Anna University New Revaluation System Flop ?

Anna University New Revaluation System Flop ?

CHENNAI: Engineering students who recently got their re-evaluated results from Anna University were a disappointed lot as there were few changes on their answer sheets, despite the varsity's new transparent re-valuation method.
The system, which was introduced in the beginning of this year, allows students from affiliated colleges to get their photocopied answer sheets a month after the results are declared. The students, with the approval of a teacher, can apply for revaluation. While some students had received other candidates' sheets attached to their registration sheets, others had no changes in the re-evaluated results although the faculty had suggested a substantial increase in marks.
"My faculty had checked my papers and recommended 28 more marks in a paper and around 20 marks in another, but there was no change after revaluation," said G Aarthi, a chemical engineering student from an affiliated college.
"Our faculty checked and suggested up to 40 extra marks for many friends, but it was of no use."
The new scheme was introduced to reduce the number of students opting for revaluation. Students are required to pay Rs700 for revaluation (Rs300 for the photocopies and Rs400 for revaluation recommended by the faculty). If the student is not satisfied with the result, he or she can pay Rs3,000 and apply for a review. Earlier, it was Rs400 for those who did not want photocopied sheets and Rs700 for others.
A senior official from Anna University said that the photocopies could have got mixed up in one or two cases. "We take the photocopies manually after removing the registration sheet. So, it is possible that the sheets got mixed up in one or two cases," said the official.
The reason why students weren't awarded extra marks after re-evaluation has to be analysed, said the official adding, "Only 31% of students cleared their papers after re-evaluation. In some cases, candidates who deserved no marks were recommended for increase in marks by the faculty. We need to analyse the results to see how the method worked this time."
